From Bradley Mitchell, your Guide to Wireless/Networking

A new piece in The Atlantic speculates on a not-too-distant future When Everything Works Like Your Cell Phone: "When a thing connects to the Internet, three things happen: it becomes smart, it becomes hackable, and it's no longer something you own."

Introduction to the Internet of Things
Some claim the Internet of Things will completely transform how computer networks are used for the next 10 or 100 years, while others believe IoT is hype that won't much impact the daily lives of most people.

Introduction to Wireless Smart Meters

Many utility companies around the world have been busy installing a new generation of residential devices called smart meters. These units monitor a home’s energy (or water) use and are capable of communicating with other remote devices to share data and respond to commands. Smart meters often utilize wireless communication technologies that can be integrated with home computer networks.

Home Networking for Internet TV
While home networks traditionally have just connected PCs, an array of consumer gadgets like smartphones, game consoles, and handhelds are also now commonly networked to each other and to the Internet. Watching televised video is one of the most popular usages of these connected consumer devices.

Ways You Can Hide Your Public IP Address
If it were possible to somehow hide your public IP address, its Internet activity would become much more difficult to trace, improving your privacy online. Although you can't completely hide your tracks, there a few techniques that can help.

Tim Berners-Lee wants Internet Magna Carta to guarantee netizens' privacy
Tim Berners-Lee, who invented the World Wide Web 25 years ago, warned that governments and corporations want control of the web and are threatening the freedom of the Internet. On Saturday, at the London Web We Want festival on the future of the Internet, Berners-Lee called for a bill of rights that would guarantee netizens’ privacy and keep the web independent. He again called for a global “Magna Carta” for the Internet. He gave a TED Talk about “A Magna Carta for the web” back in March, but yesterday Berners-Lee warned that corporations, as much as governments, want to control and abuse the open Internet. The idea to crowdsource a “Magna Carta” for the web is “based on principles such as privacy, net neutrality, free expression, affordable access and open and diverse infrastructure.”To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here Read More
